Time for Yoga – Three Cleansing Yoga Kriyas to Start Your Healthy Day

The fast pace of modern life is full of stress and unhealthy choices. Many people have turned to yoga and meditation for mental peace and physical care. But the yoga is not just limited to posture focused asanas; yoga is a complete spiritual path also that contains some yoga kriyas to help cultivate a happy, healthy and balanced life.

Thankfully, we can do some of these exercises that are so simple and quicker than asanas. You can easily add these yoga kriyas in your everyday morning routine and can give a beautiful start to your day. So, let’s understand these ayurvedic cleansing yog kriyas.

Morning Cleansing Yoga Kriyas

Sinus Cleanse

A cup of pure water into you hand and sniff it into your nose up to the brow. Do not sniff water past the brow. Afterwards, blow your nose. Repeat it few times.

This kriya removes the dust and pollutants that blocks the breathing process. It opens air passageways and helps in fuller breathing. This kriya can be performed twice a day if you are living in a polluted city.

Kunjala or Dhauti

Mix two of warm water and 1 teaspoon salt. Drink water rapidly glass by glass while standing upright. Bend forward slightly; press your left hand into the lower abdomen. Now, extend the index and middle fingers of right hand partially down throat. At the same time, press tongue down so that nausea is persuaded. The entire water you came in will comes out again within half a minute.

This kriya can be done once or twice every week. Perform in morning on an empty stomach.

It is helpful in high acidity, asthma and allergies. Removes problem of bad breath. Do not practice this kriya if you have high blood pressure or glaucoma.

Nauli or Truning of the Abdominal Muscles

Nauli is a kriya for abdominal muscles. Here is the method of practicing it –

  • Stand upright; legs slightly apart.
  • Inhale through nose.
  • Exhale through mouth and bend forward and keep your back straight.
  • Bend knees slightly and place both hands on the thighs.
  • Pull in the muscles beside the sides of the abdomen and simultaneously contract muscles that run parallel to each other in the abdomen center. A strong pressure effect occurs within the whole abdominal cavity.
  • When inhale occurs, stand upright again and inhale.

You can repeat this process 5-6 times. After practising it for some time, you can move these muscles from left to right, right to left and in a circular motion.

This kriya strengthens the abdominal muscles. It massages the organs of lower abdomen and our intestines. Regulates blood pressure and protect from diabetes. Also, helpful in heartburn and skin problems like acne. You can practice this kriya on an empty stomach. Please do not practice if you are pregnant or if kidney gallstones are present.
